What is an Ultrasound ?

Ultrasound is a diagnostic
procedure that is effective and safe. It uses high frequency sound waves
to produce images of the organs in your body. Widely used since the
1950’s, ultrasound is a simple, non invasive technique that does not use
radiation. It is a completely painless procedure.
Common Applications:
Ultrasound produces very detailed pictures of the soft-tissue and organs
of the body. It is also sometimes used to evaluate the following:

Liver disorders

Gallstones
-
Blocked arteries or
veins

Abdominal pain
-
Pelvic pain or abnormal
bleeding

Breast lumps or
calcifications

Testicular pain,
swelling or lumps
What do I need to do to prepare for my Ultrasound exam?
Abdominal /Gallbladder/Kidney/Liver/Pancreas/Spleen Ultrasound: Please
do not eat or drink for 8 hours prior to your exam.
Pelvic/Prostrate Ultrasound: Drink 32 ounces of water 1 hour prior to
exam. Do not urinate until after exam.
